Sometimes I feel the need to write whatever is on my mind. I am using a journal for this as well, but, here’s some insight into the mind of this madwoman:
I posted a story with a screenshot of a message I received from an MLM this week. It was identical to one I received last week and it came across as spammy. Someone replied that it rubbed them the wrong way and I was mean. It is never my intention to hurt someone, so I deleted it. Here’s the thing: I love supporting small business, and have worked with MLMs in the past. I wear LipSense and use essential oils daily. But if you have never read my blog or interacted with me online, and send me a message out of the blue, isn’t that weird (and kind of rude)? It bothers me when people don’t take the time to get to know me and then try to sell me something and say they can “change my life”. It especially bothers me when people reach out telling me I could benefit from their wrap or weight loss supplement or they “can fix my hair.” Yes, those are all real messages I’ve received. I’ve also had people refuse to speak to me in person, but, once they realize I have a blog, ask to send me products to share. Both hurt MY feelings. I support bloggers by reading, commenting on, and sharing their posts, by liking and commenting on their Instagram, purchasing through their affiliate links, etc. Why shouldn’t these women be expected to do the same? We all have to eat and I don’t fault anyone for what they do to make a living – but the tactics certainly need some tweaking. No lie – 30 minutes after scheduling this, I received an IG message from a woman (new follower today) stating that she’d fix my brows for $50 if I wrote a blog post about her company. I’m putting some bad energy into the universe.
We should adopt a four-day work week. I took a vacation day last Friday and felt so relaxed on Sunday – I even had time for an afternoon nap. It’s impossible to try to fit in everything in two days. If you’re like me you save laundry and housework for the weekend… but when do you have time for fun? What about blog work? Errands? Friday was my day for housework, Saturday was my day for fun, and Sunday I wrapped everything up and prepped for the week ahead. I read about 100 pages of a book, went for a walk, meal-prepped, cooked a great dinner, and had a couple of glasses of wine. It was wonderful. Why can’t every weekend last three days? How much more relaxed and happy would we all be?
How do you keep up with your favorite blogs? I still use Bloglovin, but I think I’m the only one! I don’t have the swipe-up feature on Instagram (shame on you, IG, for only rewarding those with 10,000+ followers – we all work hard), and it’s impossible to get your posts seen on Facebook. I’ve never pushed email sign-ups, either, but is there something I’m missing?
I admit I get offended over certain things (see above), but do you think we’re sometimes too easily offended? I shared the video of the UPS man hiding a woman’s packages last week on my Facebook page, and someone said I was laughing at abusive relationships. What? The video was lighthearted and I would never promote anything I found abusive. Lately I’ve been scared to share anything – it’s going to offend someone! I posted a picture of shoes earlier this week on Instagram with a caption that said I had Barbie feet. I half expected someone to say “my mom was a Barbie, how dare you make fun of their plight.” I think I need a vacation.
I can eat healthy all day, but I cannot give up chips and salsa/guac/queso. It is my weakness and I KNOW I need to stop buying it, but, I want to live a little.
What’s on your mind this week?
